Company to Provide Business Plan Competition and Mentoring for Students
West Palm Beach, FL (Sept. 7, 2011) – The United Franchise Group (UFG), a $500 million West Palm Beach franchise organization, today announced it has partnered with Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) to help student entrepreneurs start their own business ventures by contributing mentoring and funding toward their visionary concepts. Called J.J.’s Entrepreneur’s, the program includes a five year, minimum $75,000 commitment by UFG. It was developed to encourage and teach young students about the benefits of entrepreneurship and owning their own business.
As part of the program, students will work to create an innovative business plan. A screening committee, made up of local business owners and PBA staff members, will select the top two business plans. One student will be awarded $10,000 and one will receive $5,000 to launch their business concepts. Entrepreneurs get a head start from EmbroidMe
JJ’s Entrepreneurs provides an integrative learning experience for participants, drawing from both the Palm Beach Atlantic University curriculum and United Franchise Group’s business experience. Students participating in the competition will be mentored by business leaders Ray Titus, CEO of UFG, and J.J. Prendamano, who together alone have more than 75 years of experience in business and many different franchise industries. The J.J.’s Entrepreneur program was created to honor J.J. Prendamano and recognize his commitment to mentoring and helping new owners become successful and thrive within the UFG franchises.

Denver EmbroidMe Owner Talks About His Experience on CNN

Tim Sheahan, EmbroidMe Owner of Colorado, was recently interviewed by CNN about his experience as one of the many who have been impacted by the economy and corporate downsizing. After both he and his wife lost their jobs on the very same day, he decided not to pursue the daunting task of seeking another corporate job and started his own business as an EmbroidMe franchise owner.
Tim goes on further to talk about the positive impact his ownership experience has had on his life, health, and especially family. We are so excited to hear of our franchisee success stories and look forward to sharing many more!

Experimac will soon be opening in the Quad Cities. The following article features Joe King, who will soon be opening an Experimac in Illinois, with his son.
Joe King is not one of the many who quit his soul-sucking corporate job to start his own business. On the contrary, King loved his career.
“I am just retiring from John Deere as an Engineering and Quality manager after 37 years,” says King. “I had an excellent career with Deere and wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Instead, King’s focus in buying the franchise is on his son.
“My son wants to run a business and I want to help him get started as part of my retirement plan,” says King. “I can’t fish all the time.”
King’s solution was to become a franchisee of, Experimac, the new concept that provides pre-owned computers and devices; repair and upgrade services for laptops, phones and tablets; trade-ins of existing devices; and sales of accessories and software for Apple®devices.
King says his recent move to Apple products helped convince him this was an industry he wanted to work in.
“I am amazed at the simplicity and connectedness of the products and the apps and programs,” says King. “And the translation between Windows products now is seamless.”
King has noticed he’s not the only fan of Apple’s products.

A 2011 survey by The Commonwealth Institute and UM’s School of Business Administration reported that 62 percent of women business owners in Florida have been mentored and believed it important to developing greater potential in all business owners. “Having a mentor helped me become successful quicker,” said Paul Klugerman, owner/franchisee of Signarama in Kendall. Signarama, a franchise headquartered in West Palm Beach, has had a mentoring program for the last 12 years. The program takes some of the most successful franchisees and pairs them with new owners, allowing each new owner access to a franchisee who can give them guidance and direction. Klugerman said he has multiple mentees who come to him with questions on matters such as where to buy supplies or how to handle payroll. “When you are passionate and want to help someone, mentoring doesn’t seem time-consuming,” Klugerman said.

Dan Dubell, Chris Grohman and Jeff Mitchell recently combined their business experience into a new local venture, EmbroidMe of Bel Air.
Dubell previously worked as Director of Operations for 56 Taco Bell and KFC locations over 10 years, while Mitchell worked for the same group for nine. The two teamed up and entered the embroidery business together in 2003, which they recently converted into an EmbroidMe franchise. Grohman, a youth minister, later joined the duo after meeting Dubell through charity work.
EmbroidMe was recently ranked 20th by The Advertising Specialty Institute’s Counselor magazine in its annual Top 40 Distributors listing. The ranking recognizes the top distributors in the promotional products industry based on the previous year’s gross revenue.
